In 2016, infant mortality was 7.5 per thousand and that of children under five was 10.2 per thousand, both meeting the targets set in the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Program for the Development of Chinese Children (2011-2020) ahead of schedule. The gap between China and developed countries is rapidly narrowing. In 2016, for children under five, the underweight and growth retardation rates, and anemia prevalence decreased to 1.49 percent, 1.15 percent and 4.79 percent, respectively — all meeting the targets set in the Program for the Development of Chinese Children (2011-2020) ahead of schedule. The health care service system for the elderly has improved. By the end of 2015, there were 453 rehabilitation hospitals, 168 nursing homes and 65 nursing stations around China, up by 69.0 percent, 242.9 percent and 16.1 percent, respectively from 2010, the document said.Disability prevention and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities have also improved. From 2012 to 2016, 15.26 million people with disabilities received basic rehabilitation services nationwide, it said.var addthis_config = {“data_track_addressbar”:false};(For the latest China news, Please follow Peoples Daily on Twitter and Facebook)(Web editor: Hongyu, Bianji)Add your comment/* * * CONFIGURATION VARIABLES: EDIT BEFORE PASTING INTO YOUR WEBPAGE * * */var shortname=window.location.host;var disqus_shortname=;var disqus_identifier=;if (shortname==en.people.cn){disqus_shortname=enpeople;disqus_identifier = 9275466;}/* * * DONT EDIT BELOW THIS LINE * * */(function() {var dsq = document.createElement(script); dsq.type = text/javascript; dsq.async = true;dsq.src = // + disqus_shortname + .disqus.com/embed.js;(document.getElementsByTagName(head)[0] || document.getElementsByTagName(body)[0]).appendChild(dsq);})();Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus.Related readingChina issues white paper on public healthRegular social media use good for mental health: Aussie studyFinland minister shares experience in health, considers future cooperation with China107-year-old shares secret of her long lifeWorld mayors vow to place health at center of future policymaking9th Global Conference on Health Promotion adopts Shanghai DeclarationChina continues to promote global health: Premier Li9th Global Conference on Health Promotion kicks off in Shanghai6 in every 10,000 people have AIDS in ChinaCPC top leadership adopts plan to build “Healthy China”We RecommendPitaya flower: blooms for one night, yields delicious fruit
