(File Photo by Han Zhangyun)In addition to various local Henan dishes, including the province’s famous spicy soup, the catering team can cook whatever the front-line medical workers from Henan province want to eat, and will make them especially tasty, said Fan.By 11:30 a.m. of Feb. 26, medical workers from Henan were tucking in to a hearty lunch with a local flavor.“I’m going to eat a lot,” said Tong Linlong, a medical worker from a Henan medical team in Wuhan.“The spicy soup tastes authentic,” exclaimed a male medical worker after enjoying a typical Henan breakfast on Feb. 27.“The fried glutinous rice balls and fried dough sticks are so delicious. I think I still prefer the food from my hometown,” one female medical worker said happily after enjoying breakfast made by cooks from Henan. On Feb. 20, local dishes of east China’s Jiangsu province, including 3,000 Nanjing salted duck, 10,000 meat buns, and 10,000 kilograms of local rice, were brought to a medical team from the province fighting the epidemic in Huangshi, central China’s Hubei province.Cooks prepare Nanjing salted duck for medical workers. (Photo/Wang Xu)The food was brought to Huangshi by seven cooks and 30 catering professionals sent by Jiangsu’s Department of Commerce, Catering Industry Association of Jiangsu, and local catering enterprises. The catering team has been providing meals for 2,200 medical workers sent from Jiangsu to Hubei since Feb. 19.“We have been busy preparing meals for three days in a row. We basically sleep only three hours a day,” said one chef, adding that they are doing their best to help medical workers fighting the epidemic on the front line in their own way.Worried that medical workers from Shandong province might not be able to get used to Hubei rice, the province sent trucks loaded with 100,000 steamed buns to its medical teams stationed there. The Shandong medical workers were delighted to get the buns, with many female staff attracting a lot of attention online by live-streaming their hometown food.In addition, on Feb. 20, Shandong sent 2 tonnes of dumplings filled with Spanish mackerel stuffing to its medical team in the Second Hospital of Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation. With more than 2,000 medical workers sent to the front line of the battle against the epidemic in Hubei, south China’s Guangdong province had no intention of letting its medical teams miss out on their favourite local dishes. One local enterprise from Guangdong donated cooking robots to the medical teams sent to Hubei that can cook Guangdong specialties and steamed rice in claypots.Cooking robots work in an isolation point in Hubei Land Resources Vocational College in Wuhan, Hubei.
